Death Calls My Name

They tracked him through the mountains
and they tracked him through the fields.
He`s looking through the window
and I know just how he feels.

I heard the wind
calling through the trees.
There`s a killer on the loose and
He`s coming for me.

Laid them down
in the ground today.
There`s a killer on the loose
and He`s calling my name.

And I hear him calling.

I slept with one eye open
and a shotgun in my hand.
When the horses get restless,
then I know this is the end.

Recording Session day 2

Its day two here at Future Shock Studio here in Greenpoint Brooklyn NYC. We are almost done tracking xcept for 2 songs, which I hope to be done by lunch time tomorrow. Then VOX.

I like what I am hearing. This is BLX first all analog recording. Its nice to NOT look at a computer screen between takes and just listen. It all has a nice feel to it. Sometimes slow and sleazy and sometimes brash and in your face.

I have used several guitars and different distortion pedals throughout this time. The Contessa hollow body, `77 Les Paul Custom, and my old `71 SG I just had re-wired for this occasion. Its funny I waited 10 or so years to dig the `71 out of the closet. It fucking shreds. Alex (engineer) also busted out this great "big jam" distortion for me to use. It looks to be from the early `80`s.

Some shows are starting to pop up for us. Its that time again. Winter is almost over.

I took a bunch of photos earlier. Ill get them up here or there later.

to the brothers/sisters

friends. its cold here tonight so we stay in. maybe not as cold as some of my buds out in minneapolis or omaha told me of earlier, but i walked in the snow today to old bkl (my work).

so, i got some roast a roastin`. our little apt goes well with the oven hovering around 400-300 f. its ok to stay in tonight. chaz and wednesday (our cats) are dug into the blankets next to APril better than i ever could be. Well, maybe.

Also, I put some Charles "Cadillac" Caldwell on repeat...it echoes through the apartment. I might have a PBR in hand while watching the root veg brown up all carmel like. Maybe definately.

I wont talk of the interworkings of black horse tonight. I treat today like Christmas eve. Its warm here. Inside. I may get a call from a friend from far away.

When I slice into the roast later, (not too much later), i will think of some of the folks that would make this night much better by their company alone. ha. I hope i worded that right.

find someone close tonight friends. get to it. drift off.

xoxo

a beer and a smoke

the holiday break is over and we are back at it. my mother gave me a nice leather bound journal. i have been using it a lot.

finally we got some recording time to print up the stuff we have been working on over the last few months. the first of which will be the 7" w thad sand. i feel like the song we are putting on it is our best so far. i was kind of reserved about using it here for this and to save it for a title track or something but what the fuck. this shit may be over in a nano second so why not go for it right? anyway the track that thad is contributing is called breaker 1 9 and it is fucking solid. i needed to bring out some of my best if i am to compete w that.

all of my gear, well the stuff that i use w blx is getting repaired so the last rehersal was kind of funny sounding but in a good way. i broke out the old `71 sg and the `81 gretsch and ran through franks fender combo 10". not bad. so many options. i may very well incorporate the barrage of guitars into our tour next time. i will most likely bitch about bringing too much stuff when you see me next. fuck.

i have been spending my time learning ccr covers. along with, of corse, new blx stuff. i hope to have a few songs in the belt when we tour next to mix it up a bit. "commotion", "bootleg", and "dont look now" might be in on the next blx set.

brooklyn is looking pretty good lately underneath the frigid air and occasional snow. i fear the harsh summer that is inevitable. maybe we will go to europe then to avoid all that bullshit.

so anyway the three of us spent the end of last night at matchless laying out tour plans for next year. we will come to arizona and new mexico this time out. hopefully the new shit will be out for the sxsw folk to consider. you cant rush progress, as we all know.

damn, we are lucky sometimes.

holiday to do list

1. Learn, to the note, "Rolling Stone" by Muddy Waters and never play it with other folks around.
2. Fix that fucking guitar amp finally. stop talking about it. just do it.
3. Get all abroad parcels out before dec. 18 this time! (so they arrive by 12/24)
4. Figure out what April wants that you can actually obtain.
5. Try to be a little more like Frank DiRienzo.
6. Spin that Johnny Farmer Lp one more time.
7. Figure out EXACTLY what "Mojo" is, get some, and bring it with you. When you get there, use it. Use it all night long.
8. Stop hating on breast feeding mothers for a weekend or so. Maybe wait another month until the recession really hits everyone hard for that one.
9. When Dec 24 hits, dont skimp on the scotch this year. $60 is ghetto prices for this day. Write in and thank us on the 26th. The Highland variety is best for longevity..
10. Try to watch "A Christmas Story" at least 5 times before you open your ruck. TBS plays it 24 hrs on the 24th to the 25th religiously. Give Mr. Bob Clark your nod. You probably know that the other film he did was "Porky`s". Fuck, maybe watch "Porky`s" at least 5 times. With that scotch mentioned in 9. Do the latter. It always feels good.

Eulogy/final wishes

When I die,
Bury me upside down
so everyone can
KISS MY ASS

Death Do Us Part

Our next record will be titled "Death Do Us Part".

April sounded real good tonight. Smooth, dark and sultry. We turned the lights down in the room and raced through the new set. We will record soon. Im thinking about stereo situations with the drums and guitar. Tape delay and also the odd shitty mic with the vocal layer.

Everyone is fired up in NYC...Well, our circle of friends are and I was thinking about how much more calm we all were back in Seattle. I fired these really great vintage WW2 rifles over Thanksgiving. The German Mauser seemed to be the most fitting and comfortable shot. Tho, this rifle lost the war for those fuck heads.

Anyway, APril named a few songs that will be on "Death Do Us Part", and I thought I would post them here:

-Blood On Our Hands
-No Exception To The Rule
-This City`s Got Me
-The Virgin Mary`s Hand

The rest of the stuff has been noted around the practice space as "song number4", or "the one that gives me stress" and suchlike.

Im thinking ahead tonight. Beyond the space on old south 4th here in BKLYN.
Ideas for a record cover. PR photos of Frank, APril and me. Beyond the hands of the studio we will certainly be in and out of in the next few weeks.

I remember a really hot early morning in OKC where we (TBP) were getting an oil change. I was the only one that had a cell phone. That tour was at least a month long. I went into Kinkos to correspond with our agent. I still have that card in my wallet...tho there are no credits on it. Lots of stuff has changed since then.

There is more coming friends.
